Third doctor's Visit

Last Thursday we went to our third doctor's visit and as before, all is well. We saw a different doctor in the 6 doctor practice and I liked him just as much as Dr. Berry. I figure, if these six people are in practice together, they must think alike.

I was delighted when the doctor went straight to the heartbeat this time. No waiting at all and there it was. Then again, my belly is sticking out a little more making a better "target". For all you predictors out there, the heart rate was 150, up from the original 143 at 6 weeks. We shall see. I used to think I had a feeling that it was a boy, but right now, I really don't know either way...

One thing that I find interesting, as I see the differnt OB's, are the different ways that they describe the process of pregnancy and especially child birth. Glenn and I have decided to start a list. And here you go....

1. Dr. Berry: "Your uterus started at the size of an apple and in the end, it will be the size of a watermelon. So it is kind of like being drilled from the inside out."
2. Dr. Maddox: "Not that I have ever been pregnant, but I understand it's like getting a charlie horse in your stomach that lasts at least 30 seconds and then comes every few minutes."

If you had to describe childbirth to a first time mother, what words would you use..... Complete this sentence: "Childbirth is like...."

Having a baby is like climbing the highest mountain..up one side and down the other..Glad when the labor starts because you know that soon you will hold your little one.
The pain is a memory that will fade with time..and you would gladly go thru it again for the end result of your bundle of JOY

I completely agree with Janet! No matter what you go through it is soooo worth it!

My personal physical experience is that your tummy starts to harden, like a big turtle shell. Then you kind of feel a drop, like the first hill of a roller coaster. Eventually, the tight tummy loosens and you can move again.

I'm sure in a few months you will start feeling "practice" versions of this experience, called "braxton hicks".

Wouldn't it be cool if we were both having girls??? EEEEE!!!!

Love you, Lil' Sis!

Well sis, that is a tough question. lol. Since each child & each labor is different. If you have to have your water broken, it tends to be quicker & harder. If your water breaks on it's own, which I did not have until baby #3, it lingered on & off for me. Okay, when you start...it is like really bad menstral cramps as it intensifies, your belly, on down tighten (I agree with the charlie horse comparison), pulling from the inside out, then when it lets up, it is the most amazing relief...but wait, it comes back quicker & harder. I agree with Janet in that it is hard to describe b/c you do forget the worst of it. After Jacquie was born I was in recovery, glowing & remember saying "that was sooo cool, let's do it again!". Make sure they have a mirror set up for you, because when you see that human life come out of your body, everything else is totally forgotten. It is the most amazing thing I have ever seen or been through & really there is no way to describe it. Just stay focused on the fact that it will eventually end & you will have that baby in your arms. I loved, loved, loved being pregnant & the birth (although the hardest thing I ever did) was simply amazing. No other way to describe it. The euphoria you have afterwards takes it all away. I HIGHLY recommend lamaze as I did that with the first 2 & refused an epidural. It REALLY helps! Also the love & support of your hubby, the good coach will get you through. I also suggest not having tons of people in the room, it makes it difficult to focus & can become frustrating. Having them in & out is good & supportive, but everyone standing around, holding your hand & telling you how hard that contraction was & how far you have to go....can be bothersome. But that too is personal, you may be the type that likes all that. If your hubby needs to take a breather, I do recommend having someone else there in the room with you. And having one assistant coach is a good thing too, it is good for the coach. : )

Well, that all said, I guess I am not alot of help. You will do great, Glen will do great, it will be the experience of a lifetime. If I could do it again, I would do it in a heartbeat. It is worth every step! But then...they turn into teenagers , J/K each phase from here on out is full of new & wonderful challenges & learning curves & yeah, just WOW!

I love you sis, so much! I so wish I could be closer to you to experience this with you more. But I LOVE the blog, keep it comin'!

Your big sis always!

They do say that labor is different for everyone, but here is what I remember...

About a day before the delivery, I started getting small achy cramps in my stomach. I thought this was just because I had an exam and things were sore. When the contractions really started, I didn't even know thats what they were. Like the others said, your stomach gets rock hard and feels like a balloon is blowing up and pressing from the inside. For me, I had a stabbing pain on my pelvic bone everytime. It was so intense that I would have to push up off the seat so that my bottom wouldn't be touching anything (OUCH!). After about 18 hours of contractions, the epidural feels even more amazing! :)
